Seed Swaps: this weekend and next April 2010

Seed Swappin' Saturdays Seed Swappin' Saturdays

Calling all Gorge area gardeners currently practicing or interested in learning about seed saving and seed sharing! You've got not one but TWO opportunities in the next two weeks to take part in a community Seed Swap. What's a Seed Swap? The Seed Swap is a community event, open to beginning and advanced gardeners alike, where you have the opportunity to:

Exchange seeds (and bulbs, tubers, rhizomes, etc…)
Meet and talk to other growers and seed savers
Learn how to properly save and store seeds

All kinds of extra seeds you have are welcome! Did you buy some great Sungold tomato seeds last season but only plant part of your packet? Bring the rest to trade for something new! Just have them labeled and organized - we'll also provide envelopes for easy trading.

This informal event will begin with a potluck and time for networking with other backyard and professional growers. There will then be plenty of time for sharing seeds and continuing to network and learn about how to save and store seeds successfully. Even if you do not have seeds to swap, you are encouraged to come network, gather information, and take away some free seeds to try, which will be available.

"Green Acres," Is It The Place To Be?
New Hood River Valley Farmers Share Their Stories

Eva Gabor and Eddie Albert may have left the farm a while ago but new generations of urban dwellers, sometimes called "ruralpolitans," are following in their footsteps. Some are pursuing a dream. Some are fleeing the rat race and urban sprawl and in turn seeking a sense of community. And yet others simply want a better lifestyle for their families. For many, it's all of the above. Exhibiting their own brand of pioneer spirit, these new farmers of the Hood River Valley tell stories that are sometimes tough, often amusing and always heartfelt.

Speakers: Nick & Kristin Walrod, Dancing Moon Farm; Pete and Annette, Siragusa Orchard & Bella Vista B&B; Ken Newman, Newman Family farms, John Joyer, Sakura Ridge Farm and Lodge.

Location:
300 E Port Marina Drive
